I awoke this morning, to the sound of a rooster in the distance crowing the morning in. As I sit here on the computer I can hear him crow every now and then. Then I had a overpowering emotional response of homesickness and a bit of regret. Thinking of Rodney and the girls. Moose Season

My Great Uncle Tom as a young man came to hunt moose on the Kenai in 1920s. Hunting is a family tradition. As the story goes, he quit hunting after this trip because of the death of a female bear they thought was unaccompanied by any cubs only to find it wasn’t.

Don’t anyone ever tell me that Fairbanks hasn’t changed. I spent a better part of my youth growing up here in Fairbanks. Living here always had a ever lasting impact upon my life, but Fairbanks has changed. I don’t remember reading these headlines as a kid but this morning in the Daily News Miner it jumped right out at me. “Teen found dead in South Fairbanks.” “This could be the second suspected exposure death in less than a week.” writes the author Chris Freiberg , Another young Native Alaskan life gone. We have come a long way baby, but we have lost something in the miles and years that have passed here in the Great Land.

Cold snap

The permafrost crop is blooming, with this latest cold snap we have had. Last night, the tempertures dropped down to a cool -48 degrees F. No matter how one looks at it, that is cold. Extreme cold and its suppose to fall in the same range tonight.
