I awoke this morning, to the sound of a rooster in the distance crowing the morning in. As I sit here on the computer I can hear him crow every now and then. Then I had a overpowering emotional response of homesickness and a bit of regret. Thinking of Rodney and the girls. For those of you who have forgotten old Rodney here is a link to an old post: http://www.thesquirrelcam.com/page/2/?s=Rodney

Arctic Native people of the Gwichin Nation to send aerial message
July 21, 2010 BP’s Gulf oil spill devastation prompts Arctic Native people of the Gwich’in Nation to send aerial message with their bodies to protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from oil development. The ‘Protect’ image, that includes a Porcupine Caribou Herd antler and threatened Yukon River Salmon, was captured at the Gwich’in Gathering at the confluence of the Yukon and Porcupine Rivers, Fort Yukon, Alaska. The message was dedicated to the memory of the late Jonathon Solomon Sr.

Moose Season
My Great Uncle Tom as a young man came to hunt moose on the Kenai in 1920s. Hunting is a family tradition. As the story goes, he quit hunting after this trip because of the death of a female bear they thought was unaccompanied by any cubs only to find it wasn’t.
