Rolling on Down the Line

Valley of the Trains

The tracks run through it, in my memory of the man who taught me how to drive a locomotive.  In memorial of Joe Hollens.

Joe Hollens, and I worked together at Clear Air Force Station in Alaska. We worked on the coal crew, and Joe was the Engineer on the Locomotive we used to move coal cars into the power plant for unloading. It was during this period of time, that with Joe and others, I became a real crack marksman with a .22 pistol. You see, working a Clear was considered a remote job. So you stayed in the facility, ate there and played there. During the evening we would spend hours hunting show shoe bunnies with pistols. It was exactly kosher so to speak, but it sure passed the time. We only hunted with pistols and bet who could hit the most head shots. Practice does make perfect as the old saying goes.

Ha, I have a hard time believing you’d ever be anything but on the “straight and narrow”. LOL But remind me not to put your marksmanship to the test…
