Hawks & Eagles

Yesterdays Bird

He tried again yesterday morning, but failed to get his bird.  Later this day in the evening, I was standing at the window and there was another large predator taking a dove in the lot behind us at the RV Park.  I didn’t have time to grab a camera but the bird looked like a young golden eagle to me.  IT was a very large bird.  I so wished I had gotten a shot of it.

I am only feeding a few squirrels now. I think the hawks feasted well on them. There are about 4 really large hawks in this area and then other red tailed hawks. I am so sad not to see my friendly squirrels everyday. Somedays, now, I only have one who comes to eat and other days there will be two. Some days I put out seed and it isn’t even eaten by the doves. I did have a lot of doves that came to eat this afternoon and one squirrel. I hope my squirrel population will increase in the new year. I really don’t know what is going on. My neighbor did tell me that his dog had caught several squirrels. Where, oh where did my poor babies go? I guess it is just the natural cycle of life.

It’s a hard world out there for your little squirrels, I’m sorry to hear about the dogs and hawks taken so many of them. All you can do is hope for the best with anything wild like that.
