Noise Makers

8036.jpgThese are amazing bugs and the sounds they make is almost mesmerizing  at times to all most over bearing.  This ones wings hadn’t quite dried completely out when I first saw it.  We later found the shell of the larvae it came from. Cicada

I love cicadas! Ah, the memories these little “heat bugs” bring…hot Texas nights, playing outside after dark, lightning bugs and the sounds of the cicadas. Thanks for posting, Bob!

while moving my 90 yr old Dad to nj, (97)we came out of apt building @ noon, the cicadas were SO loud we had to shout to hear each other! @ night they were really loud!

    Dad: they’re having sex! WOO-WOO.
    (ha ha ha!).
they look mean but they’re harmless. empty shells all over the apple trees i climbed as a child….

Sometimes, when my sister is sitting outside and talking on the phone she has to go indoors as the cicadas are so loud.

When the 17-year ones (with red eyes) emerge they cover the trees.
