Mocking Birds

Night Time Singers

3716-copy1.jpgThese birds sing in the middle of the night.  I was awakened today at around 3 AM in the morning.  I thought the sun was coming up because this Mocking Bird was sitting beside the RV in a tree and just singing away.  I don’t need any help in getting up early.  I do it naturally but this was just a tad to early for me.

There aren’t any Mocking Birds in my area. However, several years ago, I read that some Starlings mimic sounds and one even copied the sound of a car alarm.

Hi Z, it must be to far north there for Mocking Birds. These birds have more sounds than you can shake a stick at. And they seem to go through their whole repertoire once they start calling. I’m always impressed by the variety in it. It was totally unexpected to hear them call at night. We have birds in Alaska that call at night and there is more varieties here that do so. The other morning there was a hoot owl just before dawn that gave me a serenade. We have only stayed in one RV park that bordered upon a lake. Maybe I should try to stay more at some of these parks in the future, to hear the water birds.

My best advice to you Bob is buy an ax. LOL I feel your pain. I live in De. and cannot open my bedroom windows at night because this mockingbird sits in the tree across the street and goes through his repertoire of every known bird. I have tons of starlings but never heard them mimic sounds. All they do is eat all my bird seed.
I know you are up at sunrise I see through some of your pictures but agree that 3 AM is a little much. I love all your pictures and look forward to checking in on your site every day for your beautiful pictures. Keep them coming. Jean
