Hi Jeannie, yes they are just beautiful birds. I’m hoping that one of the males of this species will show up. They have a red topnot coloring that is really pretty along with that yellow. You can bet if one shows up, I’ll grab a photograph of him and post it.
Yes they are a very vocal bird, and I love to hear them call. We have several females around but I’ve only seen one male. He wasn’t close enough to photograph.

wow db, they look a lot like our red bellied woodpeckers over here in the east. gotta wonder if theyre as noisy as the ones we have here.
