Old Oso Pier

The Old Fishing Pier

IMG_0314-copy1.jpg I first came to Corpus Christi as a young teenager to live with my Aunt and Uncle.  I was having problems at home, we were living in Louisiana.  My grandfather worked here and ran the bait stand for the pier.  The years haven’t been nice to the old pier, it’s very run down now and looks almost unsafe with missing railings and walkway boards missing.   It isn’t in use anymore as a public fishing pier as far as I can tell.  It was locked and gated when I took this picture.  Still, it holds many a memory because I spent hours and hours upon it fishing.

Wish that pier could talk, lots of history there with Bob and his grandpa. (papa)

Too bad there isn’t a movement to restore it. It looks like a very good fishing spot.

I’d like to speak with the person who posted the photo. I’m writing about the pier and wonder whether the photographer’s grandfather who ran the bait stand for the pier was named Shorty. Even if he wasn’t, I would like to hear stories from back then.
