Visiting the Hens

The hens had an unexpected visitor today, I don’t think Rodney was pleased with the interlopers attention at the coop.

I didn’t know you had hens. Do you keep them indoors in winter, or are they a hearty breed?

Maybe the crow is just looking for nesting material.

Hi Z, and that’s no Crow, it’s a Raven, a different species and about 4 times the size of a crow. Do you remember the Poem by Edgar Allan Poe, “The Raven” I’ve got two hens and one rooster whom we call Rodney.

I couldn’t tell the size of the bird from the picture. We don’t have Ravens here, just Crows, but I once saw the famous Ravens on the grounds of the Tower of London.

I can imagine that Rodney would be upset. Roosters are very possessive about their hens and it looks as if the Raven was yelling at him. When I was a kid we had a rooster that didn’t even like us near his chickens. He was a mean bird and I always made sure he was outside when I went into the coop to gather the eggs.
